Hexbug Nano Micro Robot Toys
- a top-pick new robotic toy for Christmas 2011.
What are these new Hexbug toys that look and act like bugs?
They are funny and entertaining little micro robots that use the physics of vibration to move.
And they move like bugs too. But they’re so cute. And check out these discount prices – forget paying retail.
Note: Early on, these toys were predicted to be the top hot sellers for Christmas 2011 — toy buyers and survey kids loved them, and they were right. All the major toy sellers are rating them as a top-pick.
Hexbug Nano Micro Robots are made by Innovation First Labs, and are not recommended for children under three years-old because of their small size. The suggested retail prices range from $5.99 for individual Nano’s, to $35.99 for sets, tracks, and habitats.
To add to the “scientific” allure – Nano’s come in test tube-like packaging.
*This Hexbug Nano Micro Robot video from Hexbug.com shows these little toys sweeping the news.
And here’s a short video showing Hexbug kids challenge games.
Technically speaking, here are the details for these little micro robots:
- They are not just vibrating little motors! Using actual science, (and over 150 test leg and motor designs), and the physics of vibration and the forces of up and down motion, they were designed to have rapid forward movement.
The design also allows those same science forces to cause them to flip themselves upright when they flip on their back. Kids love them.
Notes:
Without being right in front of a sales display it is hard to find specific colors. Online toy sellers almost always state colors are picked and shipped randomly.
But…It is possible to find and buy many of the specific colors on ebay.
This toy is cute and fun, but without the lure of competition with other Hexbug Nano kids, or at least a Hexbug Habitat or Challenge track, the “cute” factor wears off in a few minutes and the “bored” factor sets in. Something to keep in mind when considering these toys for Christmas gifts.
On the other hand – kids love to collect them, so it could be a good on-going gift opportunity as you buy new Nano’s for their collections.
*Their battery is included, and is replaceable.
